The Addiction Recovery Guide

There are many variables in the diagnosis of addiction and the stages in the recovery process.  The Addiction Recovery Guide is a comprehensive resource for individuals struggling with drug addiction and alcoholism. From evaluation to residential treatment, the site presents a wide range of resources and treatment options. Included are self evaluations, intervention services, recovery programs, nutritional and holistic treatments, mental health practitioners, detoxification, medication, inpatient/outpatient, online treatment, message boards and chat rooms, outdoor therapy, retreats, sober housing and youth services.

Of particular interest for self assessment is the Phelps-Nourse Addictiveness Test  found on this site.  This confidential online questionnaire was developed by two MD's and is based on their theory of the biochemical basis of addiction.  It includes five parts (diet, family history, depression, alcohol use, and drug use) that quantify risk factors for addictive illness into a score for use by individuals as they enter into treatment and recovery.

The Addiction Recovery Guide is a valuable resource and supplement for both you and your therapist, offered with the understanding that addiction is an illness of denial and distorted perception that requires reliance on others for successful long-term recovery.
